The public data APIs require no API key. Automated clients must identify themselves and comply with fair-access rules; anonymous access does not exempt a crawler from those rules.

Queries, formats and bulk data
Company submissions and extracted XBRL facts are available as JSON. Nightly ZIP files provide bulk data, while archive indexes cover filing documents beyond the structured fact endpoints.
Downloaded submissions and XBRL archives provide a local research copy. Verify the scope of structured facts against filing documents and retain original identifiers and source URLs.
Costs and permission to reuse data
Public submissions and XBRL data endpoints require no subscription or API key. Commercial resellers and filing-submission services are separate products.
Applicable downstream processing, AI and redistribution terms require further review.
Check the source and third-party content rights before building a downstream product (public availability does not guarantee unrestricted reuse). This review covers published data access; authenticated submissions and account operations have different terms.
Refresh, deletions and recovery
The SEC updates JSON during the day and republishes bulk ZIP files nightly. Its guidance caps a user at 10 requests per second across machines (parallel clients do not each receive a new allowance).
