CUSTOMER CHOICE

Third-party accessibility

An administrator enables the API and chooses entity and read-only restrictions for each key. This customer route is separate from marketplace distribution.

Third-party eligibilityCustomer authorization without discretionary provider approvalSource & scope ↗
Access cost barrierHigher plan, separately licensed add-on or fixed recurring access feeSource & scope ↗

Confirm who can connect, who owns the credentials and which uses are permitted. Customer consent and provider approval can be separate requirements; the selected plan and contract still matter.

READ / INTEGRATE

API and export routes

REST collections expose property, leasing and accounting data. Limit/offset requests support repeated extraction; file and history completeness needs account-level validation.

Access routeAuthenticationCredential ownerProvider approvalAccess requirementLast checked
Premium customer Open APIAPI keyCustomerNopremium subscription; administrator enables api and creates keys2026-10-16

Availability depends on your product, plan and agreement. See the documentation below for the requirements of each route.

ECONOMIC ACCESS

Cost, authentication and limits

Premium starts at $400 per month and includes Open API. The reference states 10 concurrent requests per second and recommends retrying 429 responses after a short interval or with exponential backoff.

Check API entitlement, credential ownership and rate limits for the route you intend to use. Include review fees, customer-plan upgrades and ongoing access charges in the total.

ACT FROM OUTSIDE

External action

Granted keys can create and update properties, leases and accounting records. Validate each required operation against its resource contract.

Validate the supported operation, acting identity and permission scope (read access does not imply write permission). Ambiguous retries and revoked credentials also affect whether an external workflow can run safely.

KEEP ACCESS USEFUL

Continuity

Webhook payloads identify the account, entity and operation. Delivery can duplicate or arrive out of order; failed deliveries retry after one minute, ten minutes and one hour, then stop.

Buildium Open API reference ↗Receiving CallbacksChecked 2026-10-16

Useful ongoing access includes corrections and deletions, not only the first export. A failed request, changed filter or lost resource permission should not be interpreted as a deleted record.

LEAVE WITH YOUR DATA

Data exit and portability

Retrieve records before cancellation and keep a copy outside Buildium. Neither complete migration coverage nor a post-cancellation retrieval window was established (a sandbox is separate from production).

Test the output against the destination’s required fields and history. Check stable identifiers, relationships, attachments and extraction time; a sample file proves only the coverage of that sample.

BUILD / INSPECT / REUSE

Business logic and customization

External applications can apply customer rules. Native workflow export and independent execution rights remain unresolved.

Custom API access, ownership of workflows and the right to export their definitions are separate questions. A custom-app capability alone does not establish that business rules can move to another system.
